Roland was a Corporate executive with several business conglomerates in Malaysia before he embarked on his legal training in London, United Kingdom. He graduated with a LL.B Honours Degree from the University of London in 1988. He rejoined his previous Company upon his return to Malaysia. He later completed the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) Qualifying exams and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1992. Roland practised Corporate Law as partner in a couple of firms in Kuala Lumpur and in 1998 resumed Senior Executive positions within the Hospitality Industry in Malaysia and in the Peoples’ Republic of China.
He spent over a decade in China as Chief Executive Officer / Director of a Malaysian owned International Hotel Management Group. He successfully opened several 4 and 5 star Hotels andResidences for the local Chinese Hotel Developers in several cities including Suzhou, Chenzhou, Sanya, Shenzhen and Guangzhou. Locally, he has acted as Consultant to several Hotel and Property Developers in planning and operating new hotels in Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
Roland is one of the few Legal practitioners with extensive Corporate experience particularly in the Hotels, Property and Tourism development Industry offering Consultancy and Advisory services. He holds qualifications in Hotel Management and International Marketing from the United Kingdom besides Legal qualifications.
His area of practice includes Hotel & Residences development Consultancy, drafting of Commercial Agreements including Franchising and Licensing Agreements and Joint Venture Agreements. He also offers wide ranging Consultancy & Advisory services for entrepreneurs venturing into the Peoples’ Republic of China.
Roland has served as Secretary General & Legal Advisor to the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) and has been actively involved in promoting Tourism into Malaysia and China over the years.
